i was telling my niece about this last night and thought to tell more moms about it here:
There's an English writing competition going on for under 14 years old. The child has to submit the writings (poetry/fiction/etc) through his/her school, so moms should ask the schools if they're involved.
it's called the Hong Kong Young Writers' Award, more info below. There's a theme too I think
