CDNIS and CIS

Debenture at CIS

Does anyone know the true debenture at CIS? I have heard so many stories, some say HKD$75,000, some say HKD$2 mill. Obviously a very big difference between the two!

When I phoned CIS, they said it is currently $75,000 but that parents are welcome to give more.

Is it the case that $75,000 is the official amount but if you really want to secure a place for your kid, then it's much higher? I am so confused with all this debenture stuff. We don't have such things in the UK.

Also, when is the debenture payable? Is it only once a place has been offered after the assessment day?

Would be grateful for any info from those who send their kids to CIS. Thanks.

My daughter is currently at CIS. There are two types of debentures: corp and personal.

Corporate is more than 2Mill and you purchase this before your child applies. It gives them priority and at the interview, they state that there are two standards, those for kids with corp debenture or siblings and those without. Corp debenture can be sold on the open market.

For those without corp debenture, if you are accepted after the interview at the higher standard, all students must purchase the personal debenture for 75.000. This is fully refundable if you decide to leave the school.

Hope this helps.

How about Victoria Shanghai Academy (VSA) vs CIS? I heard that most of the CIS graduates can get into very good US university but I haven't heard about such thing on VSA graduates, though they are both on IB curriculum. And is it more easier to get into CIS primary if you have your child to go to their kindergarten first?
