American International School

Fake AIS ... not an American International School ... US citizenship gets nothing

I am not impressed with AIS. Their kindergarten is probably the worst I have seen to even have the school named American International School. Please hire someone who speaks descent English first instead of some random teachers speaking in a very heavy Indian accent. Which I have a hard time understanding?! Not that I have anything against Indian teachers.
My friend who placed her twins in AIS back in the days, said AIS had better teachers and principals. So now it is all hype with a 10,000 HKD application fees. They just want to make the easy money nor they care less about American citizenships ... which both my children have ... It is a fake American International School ... the real one is HKIS!

Hi,

We're looking to enroll our daughter in AIS this fall.

Any thoughts on the school?

Thanks in advance.

I understand you have a problem with the teachers. But I am confused as to what the American citizenship has to do with the school being called American International School. Do you think/believe that the school should only except American citizens, similar to what Singapore American School does?? If that's the issue then you need to speak with the HK government as it is their policy that no international school can turn people away based on citizenship. My children currently attend the International School of Kuala Lumpur which is sponsered by the US govt. However even there, the school is limited by the US govt, to not accept students just because they are US citizens. All nationalities are welcome and there is a 20% cap on each nation. So only 20% of the kids are US citizens. I appreciate your comments and as I stated int he other post, the application fee is only 1,000 but that is for the high school section and perhaps for the lower grades is different. Other then the accent of the teacher is there any other thing tangibly wrong with the school??

I think a good example I have first hand is French International School. It is a very decent school and the teachers are very caring, but not suited for my son in general. He was accepted to the French section because his dad is French citizenship. And I did tell them about his speech delay and other issues that he has like mood swings etc. And they did tell me that there is no learning support in their English section. It is just matter of decency to tell the parents what the school can do to help or not.
Just don’t take my money knowing that my son has speech delay then tells me at the interview saying we do not take children with problems etc.
That I have a problem with besides the citizenship because they are not support by the US govt anyways like all the other parents think they do because of their name.
I met parents that think AIS is supported by US govt. So here just to keep for record.
I am sure the International School of Kuala Lumpur does the right thing unlike AIS. And you are so lucky to have a school for your children.
I am not going to give up. Good luck to all the parents out there. If we can all speak up for in one voice we can probably make change for inclusive education. Things still haven’t change much with education in Hong Kong in the International route. I have a cousin who has down syndrome, he went to ESF schools, he is 24 now and he speaks well, he can write and be independent from time to time. The govt should give full support to school like ESF for inclusive education, but unfortunately the govt do not see a need for what ESF is trying to do … which is the right thing.
All children deserve a chance to reach their full potential to become global citizen. I am all ready to challenge EdB.
